Can You Find Your Kicks On Route 66?

Bill Emerson, The Mother Road, LLC

There are few true hidden secrets that exist today in this United States, but one may have escaped us all. There is an adventure waiting to be experienced by anyone brave enough to challenge it.

This adventure involves what is known as Route 66 – The Mother Road. And there is a member who has become the icon for knowledge about Route 66 – Bill Emerson of The Mother Road LLC.

Bill has always been involved in some form of sales, but found when he was introduced to how to sell ads in the Yellow Pages, that his income doubled. Bill and his family has been doing smaller, regional yellow page directories since the late 1980’s.

This business, The Mother Road – has been a vision of Bill’s son, Dave, who wants to learn everything he can about each business before he goes out on the road and shows them their Route 66 guide.

But it is so much more than a guide. It is a map going from its beginning in Chicago to its end in Santa Monica, CA. It is a Yellow Pages for each section within each state. It is a pictorial look at history dating back many years. And it is a written story of the places that are there for the taking, and the people that work there or frequently visit them

Dave has loved The Mother Road for years now. He duly noted that there was a need for a Route 66 Yellow Pages book. One called The Mile Post was a similar guide started in 1949 about the Alaska Hiway. (Today’s version would be The Alaska Hiway).

There is money to be made selling books first, but selling ads and renewals. Each year the stream builds bigger and better.

Over the years, Bill and his family have been bought out on more than one occasion. That has simply made him stronger and smarter when it comes to new business savvy.

The Route 66 book is laid out with the start in Chicago, and ends in Santa Monica, CA. What this book will accomplish is the buyer of it will e able to see all the businesses in the location you are visiting at a glance

There are detailed maps in each section. People travel from the far our-reaches of the world to visit the sites ad sounds the Road has to offer. There are clubs formed in the US and many other countries. Even though it was decommissioned in 1966, people still manage to find it. And they are mostly one-time visitors.

So if you want to plan a most unique vacation, or just take a quick two or three day trip, Route 66 is a close as Missouri, Kansas, or Oklahoma. Thanks Bill for introducing us to a new way of remembering the past – on Route 66!
